Sitting up in my room with my phone in my hand, I smiled at my son. I was facetiming him on his iPhone. I know a four-year-old didn’t need a phone but I couldn’t always depend on my mother to keep in contact with me when it concerned my son. She was still holding on the grudge about me sleeping with her boyfriend. It’s been like five years; she should just let that go already.

“I miss you mommy. When you coming to see me?” Staten asked.

“I’m gone see you in a few months. I’m coming home for thanksgiving remember?”

“Yaaaaay! I can’t wait to see-,” he was saying until my mother snatched the phone.

“I don’t know where you think you gone stay because you ain’t staying with me,” she snared into the phone like the wicked witch of the west.

“Momma don’t nobody want to stay with you. I’m staying with my daddy. Unlike you, he loves me despite of my past mistakes,” I shot back.

“Well you didn’t sleep with his girlfriend and then pop up with a baby nine months later. Or maybe you did. You were a little thrill seeker in high school.” She deviously smirked.

“Thinking you like girls is not a thrill momma, it’s a phase and it was short lived.” My eyes rolled. I couldn’t stand my momma. She had always been a bitch to me, mainly because my daddy adored me. She felt like he showed me more attention then her and was so jealous about it. That was something I didn’t get. How you gone get mad at your man for actually loving his child. The woman was crazy. The only thing that kept her sain was my son which was the whole reason why we weren’t cool.

“Any who, I’ll see you in a few months. Can you kiss my son for me since you snatched the phone from him before I got to say goodbye?”

“Yea, sure whatever.” She ended the call.

“Bitch!” I swore at the phone.

Sometimes I wish I had a good relationship with my momma and other times I wish the heffa would just drop dead. My daddy took care of me anyway, so it wasn’t like she was some super mom. She kept boyfriends at the house and partied like she was a teenager. She drank a lot and smoked so much weed, that i thought she was sick when she didn’t do it. She was the reason why I got down with DJ and his crew back in the day.

My momma owed him money for drugs, and she couldn’t pay it, so I worked off her debt. At first, I hated it but then I got used to the routine. I got cool with the other girls that was doing it and even built a relationship with DJ himself. I enjoyed it so much that I stayed after I paid my momma’s debt and ended up moving up rank. I made a lot of money doing what I did which was why I was able to move and start a new life.
